The hanging pieces are constructed of bent, welded, forged steel to create line drawing imagery. Each piece is constructed on a two dimensional plane existing between solid and permeable space existing simultaneously in two and three dimensions.
Some of my three-dimensional work hangs from the ceiling in front of a wall, allowing for an interplay of light and shadow. Some works are layered with more than one piece hanging in front of another providing a color field in juxtaposition to steel line forms.
Most of the suspended pieces are constructed in the format of wall-hung-images, quilts or portraits. Hanging inches from the wall, the shadows replicate the lines created in steel giving a sense of movement and surface permeability.
Some of the pieces remain in raw steel while others are powder coated in vibrant color. All the works retain traditional elements of portrayal while incorporating permeable surfaces incorporating solid material, and empty space.
